Hymenoplasty

Hymen repair also known as hymenoplasty is a cosmetic surgery to repair, restore, or construct a women’s hymen. Hymen repair or restoration is also known as revirginization and is done by women for physical, cultural, or psychological reasons.

A hymen is a very thin piece of the vaginal membrane (mucosa) in the lower part of the vagina and is tightly stretched. The hymen can tear with active participation in gymnastics, cycling, and horse riding, with extensive use of tampons or intense falls. The hymen repair surgery is a delicate procedure that places the hymen ring and tissues close to each other. It is a simple procedure to repair a torn hymen or build a hymen that is not present.

Hymen repair surgery is generally performed by a gynecologist and is done under local or general anesthesia. The hymen is repaired by reuniting the torn tags. Self-dissolvable sutures are used to join the torn tags and they dissolve in 15-20 days after the hymen repair surgery.
